James’s Story: Support, Growth, and a New Job Opportunity

Background

James registered with CEIS Ayrshire in June 2024. He was a dedicated stay-at-home-dad, focused on raising his daughter. As his daughter was preparing to start nursery, James felt it was the right time to focus on improving his employability skills and get job ready.

Support Provided

James was eager to build his confidence and take part in various employability workshops and courses. These sessions included workshops on confidence building, interview techniques (such as the STAR method), and CV writing. He also successfully completed accredited training in Customer Service, Developing Teamwork, Objective Setting, and Stress Management.

To further support his journey, James was referred to Salus for help in managing his emotions and improving his mental wellbeing. He embraced the support with an open mind, trying new techniques to support his positive mental health. James shared that Linzi, his case worker at Salus, played a key role in helping him manage workplace anxiety and build emotional resilience, skills that have positively impacted both his professional and personal life.

Job Support and Work Placement

At CEIS Ayrshire, we worked closely with James to revamp his CV and explore local employment opportunities. He attended an information session with CCL North, which led to a one-week work trial. CEIS Ayrshire provided all the necessary personal protective equipment for his placement.

James excelled during his work placement, impressing the team at CCL North so much that he was offered a full-time, 3-month contract. With the support of family for childcare, James is now fully engaged in his role and is hopeful for a permanent contract in June.

James’ Feedback

On CEIS Ayrshire:

Yes, I have gained employment thanks to CEIS Ayrshire. Lynne knew I had other things going on before being ready to commit to looking for work but was very patient and understanding with me while still checking in. I just want to say again how fantastic Lynne is as a person. I’m very anxious and Lynne made me feel at ease and I could chat to her no problem. A credit to anyone fortunate enough to have her as their advisor.

On Salus:

The SALUS service has been a huge help to me, especially Linzi herself as my case worker. I had a lot of anxiety about returning to work and dealing with my emotions in the workplace due to a lot of things in my life over the past few years. With Linzi’s help and guidance I have been able to help remain calm when dealing with triggering situations and unpack them in order to deal with them better, as opposed to getting anxious and worked up. Not only has this better prepared me for work at my upcoming job, but it has also helped me in my personal life with family and friends. I cannot recommend SALUS enough for those who would benefit from it. I am an introvert and don’t always open up to people and was very reluctant initially, but Linzi made me feel at ease and is very attentive, which made the sessions a pleasure to attend. Thanks again Linzi & SALUS for helping me, and in turn my family.
