Ryan’s Path to Employment

Background

Ryan Greer, aged 18, registered for support in April 2024 with the aim of finding a suitable apprenticeship. He engaged with various training opportunities, including completing the Elevator Pitch workshop and the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) course online training course and received his COSHH certification.

Support Provided

Ryan received tailored guidance to build a CV focused on plumbing, along with support in writing a cover letter for an apprenticeship with a plumbing business. Despite successful interview preparation and passing an aptitude test, his interview was unsuccessful.

His CV was then revised and submitted for multiple apprenticeships. Unfortunately, all of these applications were unsuccessful.

Opportunities Explored

Continuing his job search at our Youth Hub, Ryan applied for a vacancy made available through the Personal Recruitment Incentive (PRI) grant. He attended an interview on 11th June and started a two-week work trial on 24th June. Unfortunately, he was not offered a position after the trial.

Undeterred, Ryan applied to Amer Sports, another PRI job made available at Youth Hub and was invited to a two-day work trial on 6th August. His dedication paid off, and he successfully secured a six-month placement, starting on 12th August.

Outcome

Ryan’s hard work and persistence were rewarded when, on 13th February 2025, he was kept on at Amer Sports on a temporary basis. His determination to find employment, despite several setbacks, shows the value of resilience and the importance of continuous support throughout the job search process.
