Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH)
Our training centre is based in Irvine, North Ayrshire. We are accredited to deliver both the Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) Level 6 qualification and the refresher course. Training takes place at our office and is delivered by our experienced trainers.
Under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, anyone who authorises the sale of alcohol must hold a Personal Licence. To apply for a Personal Licence, you must first achieve the SCPLH Level 6 qualification.
About The Course
This course provides learners with the knowledge required to understand and comply with licensing laws and regulations. It is ideal for those working in licensed premises, including managers, supervisors, assistant managers, or anyone looking to progress in the hospitality sector.
This is a full-day course, with the exam taking place at the end of the session. Completed exams are sent to an external awarding body for marking.
Upon successfully passing the exam, you will receive your SCPLH qualification, which allows you to apply for your Personal Licence. Once granted by your local licensing board, the Personal Licence is valid for 10 years.
Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) Refresher
Under Scottish law, personal licence holders must complete a refresher course within 5 years. If they fail to do so, their licence may be revoked.
The refresher course takes half a day to complete and includes an exam. Proof of completion must be submitted to the licensing board before the 5-year deadline.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a personal licence, you must be:
- 18 years of age
- Hold a licensing qualification – such as the SCPLH level 6
- Not already hold a personal licence
- Not have had your personal licence revoked in the last 5 years
