Building Skills For Employment
David began his engagement with CEIS Ayrshire in September 2023 with the aim of securing employment in the Construction/Warehouse sectors. Upon registering, his Key Worker, Steven, devised an action plan tailored to his needs. This plan included updating his CV, participating in our online Skills and Qualities workshop, and successfully completing the online Workplace Health and Safety course. This would help David with finding work and upskill him with relevant qualifications.
After receiving his updated CV, David was informed by Steven about an upcoming Woodworking course scheduled to commence at the Maritime Museum. David expressed interest in taking part in the course and submitted his CV. His application was successful, securing him a spot on the course that commenced in November and spanned over 8 weeks. Throughout the duration, David learned a variety of new woodworking skills during the course and enjoyed every day.
Skills For Construction
After the new year, Steven and David met up to discuss further steps in his employment journey. Our Construction Sector-Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) was due to start in January. David expressed interest in the course, attended the information session, and was successful in gaining a place.
As part of the Construction SWAP, David engaged in a two-week training session at our Irvine office. During this period, he successfully completed several online training courses relevant to the construction sector. The Construction SWAP also gave David the opportunity to undertake the CITB test, enabling him to get his CSCS card. He passed the test with flying colours and participated in a 2-week work placement with a local construction company.
David completed the Construction SWAP gaining a lot of new practical skills and experience from his placement along with some extra qualifications. He met with Steven again at the beginning of March where David informed him that he would like to focus on being a Labourer. Steven made David aware of Labourer positions available at Millar Callaghan Engineering Services. He was keen to apply for the vacancy, so Steven forwarded his CV to our Business Services team, who forwarded it to Millar Callaghan Engineering Services for the position.
Later that week, David received an invitation for an interview and later that day, he discovered that he had been successful with his application. He gleefully accepted the job offer and was due to start the following week.
