Case Study

Michelle Secured Employment with Amberstone Security

Background

Michelle was referred to CEIS Ayrshire in February this year by her work coach at Irvine Job Centre. Having been a Carer for her son for many years, Michelle had never been in paid employment. She had been claiming Universal Credit since October 2021 and was eager to take her first steps toward entering the workforce.

Initial Challenges and Support

When Michelle joined CEIS Ayrshire, she already had an interview scheduled with Aldi, but unfortunately, she was not successful. Determined to help her improve her interview skills, we introduced her to our Zoom workshops. Michelle participated in Interview Skills and Elevator Pitch sessions throughout February and March, gaining valuable tips to boost her confidence for future interviews. She also completed the Covid-19 Safe Workplaces course, expanding her preparedness for the job market.

Training and Development

In April, Michelle expressed interest in working in the security sector, inspired by a friend who was employed in this field. Together, we explored options and decided that earning her SIA badge would be an excellent way forward. To support this, we helped her apply for ITA Funding to cover the necessary training expenses.

By May, Michelle had made significant progress. She completed Emergency First Aid at Work training at SCQF Level 6 with Blueprint in Glasgow. Shortly after, she successfully passed the Highfield Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6. We worked with Michelle to create a strong CV that highlighted her new qualifications; to make her CV stand out and show her experience.

Job Success

In June, Michelle was thrilled to receive a job offer from Amberstone Security. The only remaining requirement was obtaining her SIA badge. Michelle needed extra funding to cover the costs of the badge. We collaborated with Irvine Job Centre, who agreed to cover the cost through their Flexible Support Fund. Now, Michelle is eagerly awaiting her start date and is excited to embark on her new career.
