Charleigh’s Journey into Employment
Charleigh registered with CEIS Ayrshire looking for support to build her confidence, develop employability skills and explore opportunities for work or training. At the start of her journey, engagement was inconsistent and she faced a number of barriers, including anxiety, health challenges, family responsibilities, literacy difficulties and uncertainty around her next steps.
With ongoing encouragement and one-to-one support from Joanne, her Key Worker, Charleigh gradually re-engaged with our services. She received help with her CV, cover letters, job searching, applications and interview preparation. She was also supported to explore training opportunities, including hairdressing, customer service, wellbeing and confidence-building courses.
Building Confidence and Skills For Employment
Charleigh completed the Step Forward programme, where she developed skills in confidence, mindset, identifying strengths, overcoming barriers, interview preparation, digital skills and volunteering.
As Charleigh’s confidence grew, she began applying for jobs and exploring opportunities in hairdressing. Martine, our Businesses Services Team Lead, supported her to connect with Boutique Hair Spa, where she was offered a work trial.

Charleigh attended the salon, settled in well and received positive feedback. She enjoyed the experience, felt welcomed by the team and grew in confidence throughout the placement.
Following the work trial, Charleigh was delighted to be offered a job at the salon. She shared that the trial went really well, that everyone had made her feel comfortable, and that she was happy to have secured the role.
Consistent support, encouragement and the right opportunity can help a young person overcome barriers, build confidence and move into employment. Charleigh’s progress from inconsistent engagement to successfully securing work is a fantastic achievement, and a positive example of the impact of the Working North Ayrshire Employability service.
