Scottish Personal Licence
It is a legal requirement for anyone authorising the sale of alcohol to hold a Personal Licence under The Licencing (Scotland) Act 2005. To qualify for a personal licence, you must have a SCPLH level 6 qualification. The SCPLH course covers all the knowledge that learners need to understand and comply with regulatory requirements. The licence is ideal for anyone working in an establishment that sells alcohol, including managers, supervisors, assistant managers, and those looking to advance their career in the hospitality sector.
This is a full day training course with the final exam taking place at the end. Once you have completed the exam it will be sent to an external board to be marked. If you have passed you will be awarded with the personal licence which is valid for 10 years.
Due to Scottish laws it is a requirement for personal licence holders to sit a refresher course within 5 years or their licence will be revoked. The refresher course takes half a day to complete with an exam and evidence of the refresher must be sent to the licensing board before the end of the 5-year period.
To be eligible for a personal licence, you must be:
- 18 years of age
- Hold a licensing qualification – such as the SCPLH level 6
- Not already hold a personal licence
- Not have had your personal licence revoked in the last 5 years
