Level Up Helped Adam Gain Work Experience

Skills Development Scotland referred Adam to CEIS Ayrshire. He was about to leave school with no positive destination although he was keen to get into a bookkeeping/finance-based apprenticeship. Gillian referred Adam to Level Up, our 7-week employability course that runs for 3 half days a week. The course is for candidates ages 16-24 and they learn how to find, choose, and gain a job, everyday skills and undertake a placement. The course would help Adam to build his confidence and gain some work experience.

Adam engaged well in the course, which included SVQ qualification Investigating the Workplace. He joined CEIS Ayrshire’s admin team for his 2-week work experience placement. This gave Adam experience within a real workplace and helped to build his confidence.

On completion of Level Up, Gillian worked with Adam to update his CV to allow him to start applying for jobs. She showed him how to search for jobs through Indeed and Apprenticeship.scot. Adam was getting offers for interviews, but we identified that further interview coaching would be beneficial for him. He attended the STAR online workshop and Gillian provided some one-to-one interview coaching.

Adam has recently gained employment with a local telecoms firm as a Financial Administrator. He said working with CEIS Ayrshire helped him improve his timekeeping and gave him valuable work experience where he learned office skills.
