CEIS Ayrshire

How We Helped Kevin Back into Work

Relocating From England to Scotland

Kevin was referred to CEIS Ayrshire by his work coach at Saltcoats Job Centre at the beginning of October this year. Kevin had been a postman for 30 years in the Chester region of England before relocating up to Scotland. Since moving up to Scotland Kevin had a couple of jobs since being here. He worked at a Covid testing centre during the pandemic and as an aeroplane cleaner at Glasgow airport.

Providing Support to Gain Work

Kevin and his Key Worker – Steven, sat down and drew up an action plan of support. This included reviewing and updating Kevin’s CV and booking Kevin onto our Interview Skills workshop. This helped him brush up on his interview skills in preparation of any upcoming interviews. We also booked Kevin onto the Manual Handling course via our online training platform TrainMe

Within a week of first meeting Kevin, he informed me that he had an interview for a warehouse position that was up in Cambuslang. Steven then arranged to go through some interview preparation with Kevin prior to his interview. Unfortunately, on this occasion Kevin wasn’t successful with his interview.

Kevin started to work through his Manual Handling course at home but was having issues with some of the modules. We arranged for Kevin to come into the office, and I supported him with his modules. Kevin completed these modules the same day and achieved his Manual Handling qualification.

At the start of November, Kevin had another interview. This was with Highland Meats in Stevenston. On this occasion he was successful in gaining employment and is enjoying his new role.
