Grant’s Journey Back Into Employment

Re-engaging with Grant

CEIS Ayrshire previously supported Grant, who was now looking for our support in returning to work. He was eager to resume employment, showing a strong determination. The past couple of years were tough for Grant and he wanted to prove to everyone that he was serious about returning to work.

An opportunity became available for a Skills for Life position with North Ayrshire Council. With help from his Keyworker, an account was created with My Job Scotland and the application form was completed. Grant didn’t have access to a scanner, so we supported him with uploading his ID.

Employment Support

Grant got confirmation of the interview and his key worker helped with interview preparation. The interview took place online, and to ensure a smooth experience without any technical issues at Grant’s home, he agreed to visit our office and use our IT equipment. After a successful interview, North Ayrshire Council offered Grant a 6-month funded work experience position with Streetscene.

Part of the conditions of employment was to complete 7 courses before the start date. Grant had not done any studying for a while so he was nervous about completing the e-learning courses. We decided it would be best for Grant to come into the office to complete his course as he did not have a home computer. This would allow his Key worker to support him to complete the courses.

Grant showed his dedication by coming into the office daily to complete the required courses. The whole team at the Stevenston office would support him when his Key worker was not available. There were times when he struggled to manage his personal life and commitment to the tasks but he remained focussed. Despite the struggle he was able to complete the courses on time and is now enjoying his new job.
