CEIS Ayrshire

From Level Up to College Acceptance: Roan’s Story.

Roan aged 17, registered with CEIS Ayrshire on our employability programme in mid-October 2023. He was open to options about his career choices and was keen to join the Level Up training course to get support with finding a career path that was right for him.

Roan successfully completed the Level Up programme where he actively worked on his everyday skills, researched job choices suited to his personal skills and was supported in job searching, targeting the preferred job choices.  Roan also achieved the SQA – Exploring the Workplace at SCQF Level 2.

As part of the programme Roan completed a 2-week work placement with James Frew Ltd, where he received excellent feedback from the employer.

“Roan has been there early every day, working well with the engineers and asking lots of questions. Roan seems to have a real focus on his future and had inquired about pre apprenticeships.  He really made the most of the work placement opportunity and impressed the engineers he was working with.”

Exploring Other Courses to Enhance Job Prospects.

Following the work placement, Roan sought further opportunities to enhance his learning in Gas Engineering and Plumbing. We supported him in completing a personal statement for a college application. This was for the 6 month Pre-Apprenticeship course at Ayr College.  Roan delightedly accepted the offer of a place on the course.  He completed the induction on Friday 19th January and started the course on Monday 22nd January. Roan plans to apply for the James Frew 4-year apprenticeship which will start in August.

Comments From Roan

“I think registering with CEIS has massively helped me choose a career to pursue and explore my options. They have never given less than 100% when it came to supporting me with whatever I needed and I encourage anyone who’s struggling with finding a job, or unsure what to pursue to give CEIS a chance.”
