Finn’s Journey into the Hospitality Sector

Finn attended a Jobs Fair where he came across a flyer for CEIS Ayrshire in August this year.  He was unsure of which work sector would suit his skills. When Finn met his Key worker, Lynne Carr they agreed that employability workshops would be a good start to help him identify his transferable skills. He completed the Skills and Qualities, Elevator Pitch and Applications workshops. These Workshops were all completed online through Zoom and Finn found them beneficial.

At the beginning of September, Lynne Carr and Finn discussed the Hospitality Sector Based Work Academy that we were running. Finn was keen to attend the 4-week programme as he felt that his skills would be suited to work in this sector.

Gail from our Skills and Training team supported Finn in completing further workshops. Additionally, he received support in gaining accredited certificates in:

  • Manual Handling.
  • Problem Solving in the Workplace.
  • Workplace Health and Safety.
  • Customer Service.
  • Food Safety Level 1 and 2.

Our Business Service Advisor Lorraine helped Finn secure a placement as part of our programme. Finn then went on to complete the 2-week placement with Duncans Bar and Bistro in Irvine.

Lynne worked with Finn to create a new CV, adding his recently gained qualifications and work experience.

Following his work placement, Duncans invited Finn to work extra shifts. He is now a fully paid employee with Duncans and is enjoying this new experience.

North Ayrshire Council invite Finn to Cunninghame House to speak with member of the Scottish Government where they discussed the support he received whilst on the Pipeline programme.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Finn all the very best for his future.

You can read what Finn said about the support he received from CEIS Ayrshire below.

“Working with CEIS has been a wonderful experience and is something I’m truly grateful for. I would never have pictured myself to be working in the hospitality industry so I’m really thankful to them for getting me involved in it, especially since I’m now doing full time hospitality work and am loving it.”
